Day trip to Harrogate from Coxwold Cottages
- 17 August 2018 -
With its handsome historic buildings and verdant gardens, Harrogate is one of Yorkshire’s most elegant destinations. Enjoying the great summer weather, we enjoyed a day trip to Harrogate from Coxwold Cottages inside the North York Moors national park yesterday. It took us less than 45 minutes to drive there.
We parked in our normal place on West Park (technically the A61), alongside part of the Stray which is the town’s famous 200 acre green lung. Arrive before mid-morning and you should be able to park easily there although don’t forget to use the parking metre! From there it only takes a five minute stroll and you are right in the heart of Harrogate by the obelisk.
Harrogate’s heritage as a fashionable spa resort continues in the Montpellier Quarter with its Royal Pump Room Museum. Today, it is the shops and restaurants most people want to enjoy. Alongside the usual suspects you will find the likes of OKA and Jaeger as well as many independents. You must visit Hoopers department store in James Street – set in one of the town’s main shopping streets. I am always keen to track down second-hand (often charity) book shops and there are some good ones in Harrogate. Yesterday I bought a lovely photographic book on Yorkshire landscapes for visitors to enjoy when they stay with us in Coxwold.
When we arrived in Harrogate we headed straight for the famous Betty’s Tea Rooms to enjoy tea with slices of Cinnamon toast – very tasty. Almost next door was our lunchtime treat – one of the outposts of the Ivy restaurant, famous as a celebrity haunt in London. Even in little Harrogate we sat next to a well-known footballer and his family! There are so many other places to choose from in Harrogate, from smart Latin American and Italian restaurants to vibrant Tex-Mex and Fish and Chip emporiums!
That is what we so love about Coxwold Cottages. Here we are inside the North York Moors national park, yet Coxwold is only a short distance from a wonderful towns like Harrogate. Truly the perfect location to enjoy the best of both worlds… Come to Coxwold Cottages and enjoy for yourself!
