Now is the time to start making plans for 2019… What’s on in 2019 near Coxwold in the North York Moors? There are lots of things to look forward to – here are some highlights: from the Dark Skies Festival to the Malton Food Lovers Festival, from Countryfile Live at Castle Howard to Duncombe Park Country Fair and from the Tour de Yorkshire to rock concerts in Scarborough and York. Even closer to Coxwold Cottages, keep a look out on our Twitter page for events at great places to visit like Helmsley, Shandy Hall and Newburgh Priory.
Dark Skies Festival (15 February to 3 March)
This year the organisers are introducing a Moon theme as it will be the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon landing in 2019 – and the first week of the festival will have a full moon. There are events across the North York Moors from night walks and photography workshops to stargazing and, next to us at Newburgh Priory, The Yorkshire True Grit event on 23 February – cycling under the starlit skies… For more information, visit the Dark Skies website.
Tour de Yorkshire (2-5 May 2019)
Last year the Tour de Yorkshire almost came past our doorstep when the riders ascended Sutton Bank before heading off to Helmsley. This year they won’t be coming quite that close but that means you won’t be clogged up in all the road closures that a big event like this necessitates. See the Tour de Yorkshire website for route details and more. There are also the UCI Road World Championships coming to Yorkshire in September.
Malton Food Lovers Festival (25 – 26 May)
The Food Fest of the North! Set across the streets of Yorkshire’s Food Capital, Malton Food Lovers Festival is a celebration of Yorkshire’s finest produce and cooking. Expect heaving stalls, delicious street food, talks, tastings, celebrity chefs, demos, loads of music and much, much more! A family foodie extravaganza. It’s not known as Yorkshire’s Foodie Glastonbury for nothing! Check what’s on at the Malton Food Lovers Festival website.
Duncombe Park Country Fair (27 May)
Established in 1982 – the Duncombe Park event is considered the original country fair of North Yorkshire. Held in the beautiful grounds of Duncombe Park, it is a good day out for all the family. We went last year and saw everything from motorcycle stunt riders to Drakes of Hazard – ducks navigating an obstacle course! All you would expect from a traditional country fair with dogs, horses and vintage cars to the fore. See the Duncombe Park Country Fair website for the latest information.
Sir Rod Stewart at York Racecourse (1 June)
Making a rare appearance in Yorkshire, everyone is getting very excited about this rock legend coming to York. For more information, see the York Racecourse website. Also coming to Yorkshire at Scarborough’s Open Air Theatre is an amazing line up including Sir Cliff Richard, Kylie Minogue, Texas, Lionel Ritchie, Stereophonics, Nile Rogers and many more! For more information, visit the Scarborough Open Air Theatre website.
Countryfile Live at Castle Howard (15 – 18 August)
Castle Howard will host the first Countryfile Live event to be held in the North, the event linked to the BBC’s flagship rural affairs programme – one of Britain’s best loved TV programmes. The Castle Howard event will represent the best of the northern countryside and celebrate regional farming, capturing the essence of the Yorkshire countryside. For more see the Castle Howard website.
