What’s on in 2020 near Coxwold in the North York Moors national park? Dark Skies Festival (14 February – 1 March)
The North York Moors national park has some of the darkest places in Great Britain and we are delighted that visitors to Coxwold can enjoy star-studded skies on clear nights throughout the autumn and winter months. Since 2016 the national park has been organising a series of events as part of a Dark Skies Festival. There are events for first-time stargazers and those wishing to expand their knowledge or astrophotography skills further. In 2020 there are over 100 events planned with activities are themed around exploration.
The Secret Garden film lunch (launch on 17 April 2020)
North Yorkshire has a fine tradition of providing the backdrop to some of the nation’s favourite TV programmes and films. News that the much anticipated new version of ‘The Secret Garden’ has been filmed at Duncombe Park and Helmsley Walled Garden is exciting news. Starring Colin Firth and Julie Walters among others, it’s sure to cast a global spotlight on our beautiful part of the North York Moors. Click here for a sneak preview of The Secret Garden film
Malton Food Lovers Festival (23 – 25 May)
The Food Festival of the North! Set across the streets of Yorkshire’s Food Capital, Malton Food Lovers Festival is a celebration of Yorkshire’s finest produce and cooking. Expect heaving stalls, delicious street food, talks, tastings, celebrity chefs, demos, loads of music and much, much more! A family foodie extravaganza. Duncombe Park Country Fair (25 May 2020)
Established in 1982 – the Duncombe Park event is considered the original country fair of North Yorkshire. Held in the beautiful grounds of Duncombe Park, it is a good day out for all the family. All you would expect from a traditional country fair and more with dogs, horses and vintage cars to the fore as well as a motorcycle stunt team for those adrenaline junkies! York Festival (19-21 June 2020)
A major new outdoor music festival – headlined by a host of global stars – is coming to the historic city of York next summer. Global icon Lionel Richie, pop superstars Westlife and British music legends Madness will headline! The three-day music festival will be held at York Sports Club which is on the Coxwold side of York. After Rod Stewart at the York racecourse last year, it seems that York is fast-becoming a major music festival venue. See the York Festival organiser website for more information.
Countryfile Live at Castle Howard (6-9 August 2020)
After last year’s successful launch event, Castle Howard will again host the Countryfile Live event, linked to the BBC’s flagship rural affairs programme – one of Britain’s best loved TV programmes. The Castle Howard event will represent the best of the northern countryside and celebrate regional farming, capturing the essence of the Yorkshire countryside. The World Jam Festival (11-13 September 2020)
Why not visit what the organisers claim will be a jam-packed weekend! Hosted in the picturesque market town of Helmsley on the edge of the North York Moors, jam makers from all over the world are invited to submit their jam in advance for a chance to win a World Jam Festival award .
